carpoolFAIL

So this morning I decided to drive down to the office in Mountain View. Why? Because I was too lazy to deal with Caltrain and wanted to hit up Fry's in Sunnyvale during lunch. Tiffanie (my roommate) works only a few blocks away from my office, so we decided to carpool. (Full disclosure: Tif takes the Caltrain to work almost every single day, and on days I need to go to the office, I use it at least 50 percent of the time).

But get this. Even though there were no visible accidents or construction, drive time on the 101 was 75 minutes (for a 36-mile trek)!!!! "Why not use the carpool lane," you might ask? We did - once a carpool lane actually EXISTED, nearly 25-30 miles into the trek.

WTF, California Highway-Planning People. The 101 is one of the worst traffic-laden hellholes on the west coast, and is at least 4 lanes wide on either side most of the way from San Francisco to San Jose. How about adding a motherf#@&ing CARPOOL LANE the whole way down? Am I missing something here?

FYI, here's the route for those who are interested...

Love it! (The blog, not your commute headache). What time did you drive it? Keep us posted on the trek home.

  1. NorCal CalTrans is retarded. Go to Southern California, where carpool lanes are carpool lanes 100% of the time. Its silly to have this crappy switcheroo stuff going on. All these wannabe Bay Area green hippies, and yet there is no carpool incentive... tsk tsk tsk

75 minutes for a 36-mile drive? I'm often infuriated during my 15-minute, 7-mile commute - my head would explode if I had to deal with yours!
