Breaking news: new-and-improved MUNI only 27.3 percent FAIL!

I enjoy taking mass transit (when it works, of course). In San Francisco, sometimes traveling any other way is just plain silly. But MUNI, our beloved local bus + subway + cable car system, is so off schedule (and has been for years) that no one bothers to look at the transit schedule when planning a cross-town trip. In fact, it's so bad that everyone gave up long ago and now relies on services like nextmuni.com, which uses GPS devices on the buses/trains to tell us when the next one is ACTUALLY going to show up at the desired stop, schedule be damned.
But help is on the way, folks. The San Francisco Chronicle reports new data today showing that between the ends of 2007 and 2008, MUNI's "on-time performance" increased from 69.2 to 72.7 percent. Looks like MUNI is now offically kicking ass and taking names, folks. Friggin' awesome.
In other news, BART traffic was stopped for an hour today due to a possum getting stuck in the tracks...
