thinking out of the box

Not so much an ecoFAIL (not yet anyway) but hey the FAIL blog posts "WIN"s every once in awhile too.

Saw this really interesting post today about a new kind of bus called the straddling bus. I would recommend reading the transcription before watching the video as you will better understand what's going on.

This concept is crazy and yet like one of those obvious ideas that make you wonder why it took so long to come up with. I would love to see this thing in action and hear how it fares. Being faster is what public transportation really needs; an incentive to make people choose it over individual cars, which a lot of public transportation currently lack.

I will be the first to point out flaws and questions with this new concept; what happens if a tall truck gets in front of the bus and the bus can't pass? How does this work on roads that are only 4 or 2 lands across? And the whole thing with car underneath wanting to turn when the bus doesn't turn. All issues that would need to be worked out as the concept comes along; or perhaps they have been addressed but just not explicitly stated during the brief presentation.

Nevertheless, I give high props for thinking outside the box; for taking into consideration time and money and not coming out with some far-fetched concept that could not be realized in my lifetime or with my broke city's budget. Even if this does end up being a FAIL in some form kudos to you for trying.
